Po vynikajúcom prvom zápase v podaní Holandska sa očakávalo, že aj v druhom zápase zopakujú podobný výkon, no opak bol pravdou. Austrália už v prvom zápase naznačila, že neprišla na turnaj len odohrať tri zápasy a ísť domov. Aj keď po góle Robbena sa zdalo, že zápas Holandsko v pohode zvládne.
Ale o minútu nato vyrovnal Tim Cahill najkrajším gólom doterajšieho priebehu šampionátu. Austrálčania naďalej hrozili hlavne po krídlach, s dobrými centrami do šestnástky. V prvom polčase sa po jednej takej akcii dostal do zakončenia Mark Bresciano, ale trestuhodne prekopol bránu.
Do druhého polčasu zmenilo Holandsko rozostavenie, no napriek tomu ich Austrália tlačila pred vlastného brankára a opäť po krídelnej akcii vybojovala ruku v šestnástke a penaltu, ktorú bezpečne premenil kapitán Jedinak. Holandsko sa však stihlo rýchlo spamätať a Robin Van Persie strelil svoj tretí gól na turnaji, keď ukážkovo poslal loptu pod brvno. Myslel som si, že po tomto momente sa Austrália položí a Holandsko dovedie zápas do víťazného konca. Austrálčania si však vypracovali ďalšiu šancu, ktorú spálil Mathew Leckie, avšak center na neho od jeho spoluhráča mohol byť lepší. Potvrdilo sa však pravidlo nedáš dostaneš, a Austrália pykala. Slabšiu chvíľku si vybral brankár Ryan a po ľahkej strele otočil zápas v prospech Holandska Depay. V závere zápasu sa už Austrália na nič nezmohla a Holandsko dokráčalo k ťažko vydretým trom bodom, ktoré im v podstate už zaručujú postup do osemfinále.

After fantastic performance of the Dutch in the first game against Spain, we expected the same performance from them, but it wasn´t true. Australia already showed in game against Chile, that they don´t want to be an outsider, who will finish in tournament after group phase. Although, it seemed after Robben´s goal, that Holland would win easily. But one minute later Tim Cahill scored probably the most beautiful goal of the World Cup ever. Australia was very dangerous specially from flanks, where players crossed nice balls to the penalty area. In the first half Mark Bresciano had one big chance after this action, but he shot over the crossbar.
At the start of the second half Holland changed the formations, however Australia continued with great performance and pressed Dutch players very high. Again after wing action the Socceroos had a penalty, because Janmaat played with hand. Jedinak had no problem and took the lead for Australia. The answer of the Dutch was quick. Five minutes later Robin Van Persie scored his third goal of the tournament, when he placed the ball under the crossbar. I thought, that after this moment Australia would resign and Holland would definitely rule the game. However, the next big chance had Socceroos, but Mathew Lackie missed. On the other side it confirmed the rule you don´t give, you get. Goalkeeper Ryan collected a goal after easy Depay´s shot. Holland then controlled tight lead and won their second game of the tournament. This win ensures progress for Holland to the knockout stage. Australia will say goodbye in the game against Spain.
